Scenic location near downtown works for Winfield community

Two townhouse models at the new Shelburne Crossing community in Winfield hit a home run with buyers at its recent grand opening.

The M/I Homes' community, framed by forest preserve land, is near the Illinois Prairie Path and within walking distance of downtown Winfield and the Metra train station.

Downtown Winfield offers several popular restaurants, the post office, library and shopping. A scenic park with a gazebo and creek is adjacent to the Metra station.

The community, located on Meadowview Street off High Lake Road a few blocks west of Winfield Road, offers three floor plans with two bedrooms, 11/2 to 21/2 baths, finished lower levels and attached two-car garages accessed through motor courts in the rear of the buildings.

"In adverse economic conditions, Shelburne Crossing is enjoying exceptional early success," said Ron Martin, Chicago division area president for the national homebuilder, based in Ohio. "Professional singles and couples who commute to Chicago for work and entertainment yet also want to enjoy the amenities of small-town Americana will find that Shelburne Crossing is an ideal choice."

In classic red brick buildings, models feature transitional interiors with contemporary touches that feel young without being too edgy.

The light-filled end unit Fullerton is priced from $264,990 and features 1,995 square feet, two bedrooms plus family room and 21/2 baths with a chocolate, cream and lime green color scheme.

In this open floor plan, the living room, dining room and kitchen combine for one large gathering space, and a dark chocolate living room wall extends across the dining room.

A cream sofa and two chairs provide seating while a square wood table topped with a green glass vase adds a bit of elegance. The space also includes a buffet with candles atop and corner wine rack.

The kitchen features black appliances, furniture quality cabinetry topped with granite, pantry and large center island with breakfast bar. A tile backsplash adds interest while sliding doors lead to the balcony. A bath with walk-in shower sits off the main living area.

The second bedroom or optional den is shown with a day bed and desk and chair. In the hallway toward the master suite, a family photo display decks the wall.

The master suite occupies a private spot away from the main living area. A deep tray ceiling provides drama in the bedroom that shows a chocolate and cream bed cover topped with green pillows. The room also includes a dresser and mirror, reading chair, walk-in closet and linen closet. The wallpapered bath features dual sinks, tub and walk-in shower with private commode.

The finished lower level offers a family room and optional powder room or full bath. Buyers can opt for a bedroom suite with walk-in closet and full bath in lieu of the family room.

The Sheridan model, priced from $249,990, features 2,132 square feet, two bedrooms plus media room and 21/2 baths.

A covered porch and foyer lead to the main floor of this tri-level plan where chocolate and burgundy take center stage.

The great room with bay window features a cream sofa, two striped chairs and large area rug that adds texture. The room also includes a media center with plasma TV, glass-topped coffee table and matching end tables and lamps.

The optional three-sided fireplace sits between the great room and formal dining room that is shown with a sleek bar for entertaining. A half wall separates the kitchen and breakfast area from the rest of the main level. A powder room sits off the dining room.

The light and airy kitchen features stainless steel appliances, furniture quality cabinetry topped with granite, center island with breakfast bar and pantry. In the breakfast area, a glass-topped table set for four beckons guests. This space also includes a credenza with silver-framed mirror above and sliding doors to the deck.

On the second level, the master suite with bay window features a deep tray ceiling and silver faux finish walls that sparkle and contrast with dark wood furnishings. A silk spread and lots of pillows top the king-size bed. There is also a walk-in closet. The bath with burgundy and gold wallpaper features two sinks, tub and walk-in shower.

The second bedroom with two wall closets and private bath is shown with exercise equipment, bed with cream spread and desk. This bedroom can be a second master suite, exercise room or guest suite.

The lower level with media room and half bath offers the option of becoming a bedroom suite with full bath.

The third floor plan offered at the community is Monroe, priced from $234,990. It has 2,013 square feet, two bedrooms, 11/2 baths and large family room on the finished lower level.

Buyers can personalize their homes with volume ceilings, fireplaces, hardwood floors, 42-inch kitchen cabinets with crown molding, granite countertops, stainless-steel appliances and more.
