Lollapalooza's local heroes

Lollapalooza is global in its reach, both for its entertainers and those entertained. Yet, while Chicago-area fans figure to make up the bulk of the crowd, Chicago bands are a little more rare on the schedule. Here are a few notables, however.

Rise Against Lead singer and rhythm guitarist Tim McIlrath is from Arlington Heights, and bassist Joe Principe lives in Woodridge. The hard-rocking, confrontational, yet nothing if not well-intentioned group plays at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, on the Olympic stage.

Andrew Bird The Chicago-based singer-songwriter plays on the game-system stage at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7.

Hey Champ Originally from Rockford, now based in Chicago, the synth-groove group plays at 12:15 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, on the Olympic stage.

thenewno2 Most famous for being the band of Beatle heir Dhani Harrison, the group adds Chicago native and Highland Park High School alumnus Jonathan Sadoff, a composer and multi-instrumentalist, for its live shows, and he's helping to write and arrange the next album. They're at noon Saturday, Aug. 8, on the bank stage.

Ralph's World Chicago fixture Ralph Covert plays the Kidzapalooza stage at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, and 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 9.

And don't forget, on Perry's Stage, the Chicago-connected DJs Kaskade, Hollywood Holt, Hood Internet, He Say, She Say, Dark Wave Disco, Moneypenny and Yello Fever.
