Spring Grove man killed in motorcycle crash

An 18-year-old Spring Grove man died late Tuesday when his motorcycle drove off a McHenry Township roadway and crashed into a wooded area, according to police.
Joseph H. Smith, of the 8800 block of North Deertrail Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 11:15 p.m. in the area of 4505 Pioneer Road, northwest of Johnsburg.
McHenry County Sheriff's police said Smith was northbound on Pioneer Road aboard a 2005 Honda CBR when, for unknown reasons, the motorcycle veered into a ditch on the east side of the road and crashed in the abutting woods.
Smith was riding alone and wearing a helmet at the time, sheriff's police said.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
