Charity golf outing to benefit three local children

A benefit golf tournament will be held Aug. 28 at the Mount Prospect Golf Course, 600 S. See Gwun Ave., for three local children in need.

Jimmy Meyer, and Bridgit and Pierce Finnerty will get proceeds from the Lance Meyer Memorial Golf Tournament, which tees off at 11:30 a.m. with a day of golf, followed by dinner and drinks at 5:30 p.m.

The Lance Meyer tournament was started in 2007 by a group of Prospect High School graduates to honor their classmate Lance Meyer, who graduated from Prospect in 1984, and who adopted his nephew, Jimmy, from a sister who died in early 2007.

Lance died later that year in a drowning accident. As a result, Jimmy Meyer is being cared for by Lance's fiancee, Alicia Cushman.

Originally this tournament was formed to help Jimmy Meyer but has grown to include other area children. This year it will include the Finnerty children, Bridgit and Pierce, who survived the June 3 fire in their home that killed their parents Patricia and Kevin, and brother Garrett. The children are being cared for by their aunt, Jennifer Murphy.

The cost to golf is $125 per golfer, which includes the cart and dinner. The winning foursome receives a commemorative trophy.

Those who want the dinner only pay $40. After dinner, there will be a raffle and auction for a variety of prizes from local merchants.

Local businesses can participate by golfing, donating prizes or sponsoring holes.

Gold Level, $250: Your name on a sign at a hole and at the front.
