FBI seeks help solving '01 murder of Hanover Park man
The FBI hopes to produce a new lead in the search for a fugitive authorities say murdered his Hanover Park neighbor eight years ago.
"Sometimes we just revisit crimes and hope to drum up some publicity in hopes someone will come forward," FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said.
Jose Camacho, now 41, whose last known local address was on the 2300 block of Glendale Terrace in Hanover Park, was charged by Schaumburg police with first-degree murder in May 2001 in the killing of 28-year-old Flavio Venancio.
Venancio's body was found face down in a retention pond near the Schaumburg Metra station at 2000 S. Springinsguth Road. Authorities allege Camacho stabbed and strangled Venancio while in a drunken rage earlier that day. The medical examiner's office had ruled drowning as the official cause of death.
Schaumburg police never found Camacho, and the nationwide manhunt for him began in June 2001. Federal authorities charged him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution, suspecting he fled the state. Camacho's 1993 red Mitsubishi Eclipse was registered in California, and police said he had family in the Anaheim area.
The FBI considers Camacho armed and dangerous. The public is asked to contact the FBI at (312) 421-6700 or local police if they see him.
Though his physical appearance could have changed over the years, Camacho is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall with a medium build, black hair and brown eyes. He sports a tattoo on his left inner arm that reads "Veronica Solo Tu Un An Helo," which translates from Spanish as "Only a yearning for you, Veronica."
