Man accused of selling drugs, gun to Wheeling police officer

A Glenview man is accused of selling cocaine to an undercover police officer three separate times from a Wheeling parking lot in July, according to Wheeling Deputy Chief Bill Benson.

According to Benson, Carlos Sotos-Avalos, 21, sold various amount of cocaine to the officer on July 7, 16 and 20. During the July 20 transaction, Sotos-Avalos also offered to sell the officer a sawed-off .22 caliber riffle along with 15 rounds of ammunition, Benson said.

"Along with the drugs, we were able to get the gun off the street," he said.

Wheeling police connected with Sotos-Avalos with help from a confidential informant, Benson said.

After the July 20 meeting, Sotos-Avalos was charged with armed violence, delivery of a controlled substances and possession of a controlled substance and has a court date of Aug. 19. He was unable to post 10 percent of the $100,000 bond and is still at the Cook County jail, officials said.
