Food drive at Alpine Fest

This weekend at Alpine Fest in Lake Zurich, a food drive tent will collect for the local food pantry. Donate three nonperishable food items or toiletries to be entered in a raffle to win a Schwinn bicycle. The drawing is Sunday night. Supplies in the food pantry are low during the summer and food donations are needed.

Candidates, get your forms:

Petition packets are available for candidates of established political parties seeking nomination in the Feb. 2, 2010, primary election, the Lake County clerk's office announced. The packets are available at the clerk's office in Waukegan or online at lakecountyclerk.info. Nine seats on the county board will be up for election in 2010, as will the county clerk, regional schools superintendent, sheriff and county treasurer. Candidates can start circulating petitions Aug. 4. The filing deadline is Nov. 2. For more information, call Cindy Pagano at (847) 377-2309.

White Sox kids camp in Barrington:

The Chicago White Sox Training Center will host a fun and instructive baseball skills program July 27 to 31 at Langendorf Park in Barrington. Participants also receive six free White Sox tickets and apparel. The cost is $159 for participants ages 5 and 6, and $199 for those ages 7 to 12. District 128 groups to meet:

The Libertyville-Vernon Hills Area High School District 128 board's program committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 27, to discuss staffing changes and other business. Afterward, the board's finance committee will meet at 6:15 p.m. and the full board will meet at 7 p.m.
