Car hits grocery store, driver escapes injury
A Glendale Heights man escaped injury Thursday afternoon when he apparently accidentally hit his car's accelerator and drove into the side of a Carol Stream Dominick's grocery store.
No other people were involved in the accident at 560 S. Schmale Road.
Police said Mohammad Khan, 58, was turning left from a row of parking spaces around 12:45 p.m. when he accelerated, turned wide and crashed into the brick front of the store.
"It appeared that either he stepped on the gas instead of the brake or had his foot on both," Carol Stream Deputy Chief Jerry O'Brien said.
The white Toyota Camry sustained significant damage, but Khan suffered no major injuries. The building was not damaged.
Khan was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, police said.
