Teen arrested in Hoffman Estates, Streamwood armed robberies
A Cook County judge set bond at $200,000 Wednesday for a Streamwood teen charged with two armed robberies in recent days in Hoffman Estates and Streamwood.
Marcus D. Mallett, 19, of the 1500 block of McKool Avenue in Streamwood, was charged in robberies occurring Friday night on the 600 block of Bode Circle in Hoffman Estates and Sunday on the block on which he lives in Streamwood, said Assistant State's Attorney Adam Klugman.
In the Hoffman Estates case, Klugman said Mallett and another man approached the victim, and Mallett held a handgun to his chest and demanded money. The victim turned over his wallet with money inside and a cell phone to the men, who then ran away, Klugman said.
The victim, a Streamwood man, was not harmed and later identified Mallett, leading to his arrest, police said. Hoffman Estates authorities continue to search for the second suspect.
In the Streamwood robbery, Klugman said Mallett and two other males approached three men, one of whom recognized Mallett as his neighbor.
Mallett "chambered a round" and pointed a gun at the victims, who raised their arms in the air, Klugman said. Mallett and the other men patted down the victims, took their wallets, money and cell phones and ran off, Klugman said. Streamwood police located Mallett later that night. The other two suspects remain at large.
One of the other suspects in the Streamwood case is described by police as Hispanic, 5-feet-3-inches tall, heavyset and cleanshaven.
Mallett is currently on probation for a retail theft, Klugman said. He next appears in a Rolling Meadows courtroom on Aug. 12.
