Streamwood aims high with weekend festival

While the big summer festival has come and gone for many suburbs, seasonal fun will culminate in Streamwood this weekend with its annual Summer Celebration, which kicks off Friday at Hoosier Grove Park at Irving Park Road and Madison Drive, just east of Route 59.

All the highlights are back this year, including the parade at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, fireworks at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, the car show from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday and daily live entertainment, carnival rides, a business expo and children's activities.

Here's how it all breaks down:

FRIDAY

5-9 p.m.: Children's craft activity area

5:30 p.m.: Clowns Bingo and Jay Jay

7-8 p.m.: Mendhi hand painting

5-10 p.m.: Children's attractions, business expo booths

5-10:30 p.m.: Children's carnival rides

6-8 p.m.: Dan the Animal Man

6-9:30 p.m.: Teen Beatnick Lounge

Main Stage:

5:30-7:30 p.m.: Janesville

7:30 p.m.: Paper Airplane Contest

8:30-10:30 p.m.: 7th Heaven

SATURDAY

10:30 a.m.: Parade, steps off from Streamwood Boulevard and Bartlett Road

noon-4 p.m.: Unlimited carnival rides w/wristband, $17

noon-5 p.m.: Dan the Animal Man

noon-8 p.m.: Business expo booths

noon-9 p.m.: Children's craft activity area

noon-10 p.m.: Children's attractions

noon-10:30 p.m.: Children's carnival rides

7:30 a.m.: Golf outing (shotgun start)
