Vernon Hills police search for driver of hit and run vehicle

Vernon Hills police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run accident Monday night.

Sharon Joseph, crime prevention officer for the Vernon Hills Police Department, said a 39-year-old woman was riding a bicycle in the 200 block of U.S. Route 45 when she was hit by a black Toyota RAV 4 at 10:08 p.m. Monday.

Joseph said the driver of the small SUV fled the scene of the accident and was last seen heading west on Route 45.

The woman, who remains unidentified by police, was taken from the scene to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with what are believed to be serious injuries. Joseph said the status of and injuries to the woman could not be released.

Police have located pieces of the vehicle at the scene of the accident.
