Mt. Prospect roads in terrible shape

I direct these questions to Mayor Wilkes, the City Council, and Public Works.

Why are our village streets and main arteries in such deplorable condition?

I have lived at the same address in Mount Prospect since 1979. We left the Northwest side of Chicago to escape the conditions created by Mayor Bilandic's "Snowstorm" that previous Winter.

I do not ever remember our roads and streets being in this bad of shape. Here it is, mid-July, and most conditions haven't been in the least bit repaired. If it's not a bone-jarring pothole, it is a asphalt speed bump that runs from shoulder to shoulder, so there is no way of driving around it. I swear we had better road conditions at Bong Son, Vietnam, when I was overseas.

In an attempt to conserve on gasoline costs, I ride a motor scooter that gets 74 m.p.g. But I feel as though I am taking my life in danger whenever I am on village streets. At dusk and at night these hazards are even harder to see until you are upon them, with no warning at all.

For example, Busse Road between Golf and Central roads have regular pavement ripples that run from gravel shoulder to shoulder.

This isn't the Wild West. That road should be widened and brought up to the 21st Century and have a lane added, (a turning lane in the middle), making it a three-lane street. There is plenty of room on either side currently occupied by open drainage ditches that are breeding mosquitoes this time of year.

After dusk and at night, the potholes and aberrations are more difficult to spot allowing no time to react. Please help!

A response would be greatly appreciated.
