Man gets prison for 18th conviction for driving without license

License or no license, nothing was going to stop Lonnie Harris from driving.

Until now.

A McHenry County judge on Monday sentenced the 63-year-old Grayslake man to three years in prison after his 18th conviction for driving on a revoked license.

Court records indicate Harris' history of driving despite the state having taken away his license dates back to the mid 1970s and spans four counties: McHenry, Lake, Cook and Pulaski, in the southern tip of the state.

The latest charge stems from a June 22, 2007, traffic stop at Route 14 and McHenry Avenue in Crystal Lake. It was his first arrest on the charge since being caught driving without a license March 23, 2004, in Lake County, court records indicate.

Under the plea deal entered Monday, Harris received credit for 62 days served in jail since the 2007 arrest. With likely day-for-day credit while in prison, he could be free in less than 16 months.
