Hygiene products collection
The DuPage County Health Department is seeking donations of personal hygiene products to be distributed at the Back to School Fair Wednesday, Aug. 5 at the county fairgrounds in Wheaton. Boxes have been placed at lunchrooms in public buildings at county government buildings in Wheaton. Items such as hotel samples, soaps, shower gels, hair care products, baby products, lotions, moisturizers, fragrances and other new cosmetic kit extras may be donated. The items will be distributed to children at the fair where the children also will receive hand-washing demonstrations that feature a black-light box to check for remaining bacteria.
Literacy volunteers needed
Literacy DuPage offers a six-session volunteer tutor training course from 6 to 9 p.m. July 21, 23, 28, 30, Aug. 4 and 18 at the Wheaton Public Library, 225 N. Cross St. Volunteers must be 18 or older, have a high school diploma, be able to read, write and speak English fluently, and be able to attend all six sessions. No teaching experience is necessary. Donate your shoes
Stuff for the Poor will collect gently-used shoes during the DuPage County Fair, Wednesday through Sunday, July 22-26, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 W. Manchester Road, Wheaton. Stuff for the Poor is a not-for-profit organization that collects shoes for men and women starting small businesses in Africa. Proceeds benefit orphaned children in Tanzania.
