Blackberry Polo grounds host charity polo contest for cultural arts commission
Members of four polo teams spent Sunday at Blackberry Polo Club near Batavia playing for a good cause.
Players from as far south as Peoria spent the weekend participating in a two-day polo tournament on the grounds.
Roughly $1,000 raised at the event went to benefit the Oswego Cultural Arts Commission.
"Being a part of this was kind of a no-brainer for us," said Jen Wilson, chairwoman of the local commission.
The money will be used to help fund the cost of programming by the group, which include performances at the Oswego Playhouse.
Len Monson, a Batavia resident and member of the Oswego polo team, has been a 20-year-member of the polo club. His team took home the first-place trophy.
"It's like a physical game of chess played at 30 miles per hour," Monson said. "You can't beat it."
