Two charged in Campton Hills burglaries
Two men were arrested late Sunday in connection with several car burglaries in Campton Hills, police said Monday.
Thomas W. Cantele, 19, of Loves Park, and Jonathon T. McCarthy, 20, of Campton Hills, each face two counts of vehicle burglary, Police Chief Greg Anderson said. Cantele also is charged with possession of burglary tools.
Anderson said police were called to the 4N500 block of Arrowhead Drive about 11:20 p.m. Sunday after some residents sitting on a porch heard a commotion and saw two men rifling through a vehicle on the street. Cantele and McCarthy were pulled over as they left the area.
Police said several stolen items and a "Slim Jim" tool were recovered in the traffic stop, and the men are suspected of several burglaries in the area Sunday night.
"We have three cases confirmed, and the county has one (just outside of Campton Hills) that I'm aware of," Anderson said. "We potentially could have other reports coming."
Anderson added that the men targeted vehicles with valuable items that were easy to carry, such as GPS devices, iPods and cell phones.
The suspects were being held in the Kane County jail pending a Tuesday bond hearing, according to police.
