Muscle cars get their time to shine at annual Glendale Heights car show

Mark Edwards religiously wiped down a 1935 Ford Roadster during Sunday's "Show and Shine" car show in Glendale Heights.

The paint job itself was a reflection of the intricate rehab job done on the vehicle, which cost the car's owner more than $100,000.

"The color is between ox blood and port wine," said Edwards, who rebuilt the car himself and got permission from the owner to show it off at Sunday's car show. "I promised him I'd return it cleaner than he had it."

More than 150 cars of all shapes and sizes were on display the show, from vintage roadsters to various types of stock cars, imports and antiques.

Bob Zenker of Glen Ellyn has been coming to the annual show for years with his prized 1929 Ford Roadster. He first bought the car about 20 years ago and has spent the better part of two decades upgrading and detailing the vehicle.

"It's my own little labor of love," Zenker said. "It definitely catches people's eyes when I'm on the road."
