Wheaton band gives pleasure to many

Do you know what's nice about attending the Wheaton Municipal Band's Thursday night's concerts at Memorial Park in Wheaton? First, the superb talent is unmatched in Chicago's suburbs. Second, the park setting is so beautiful and well kept thanks to the Wheaton Park District. Third, the band is like one, big, happy family going on for generations. And fourth, the guest conductors and performers are a wonderful addition to the already scheduled performances.

On one Thursday, the brothers Camphouse, Mark and William, were a delight to hear and gave a longer-than-usual program. They ended with the Armed Forces Medley, which always brings pride to all the veterans who have served. As I was folding up my chair to leave, an elderly gentleman came up to me and said, "I see you're standing again." And I said, "It's great to see you too, Semper Fi!" (our Marine Corps song).

I feel like I'm part of that band family, just as we Marines are one big family. There is something special in knowing that we truly care about each other. I so look forward to being at the Thursday night concerts. Listening to the beautiful music takes me into another world. The day's struggles and cares are left behind to be replaced by soothing music to the ears.

Wow, I wonder if heaven is like this? Thank you Wheaton Municipal Band for all the years you have brought such pleasure to so many people.
