Wisconsin road work:

Motorists traveling in Wisconsin via I-94 are urged to plan ahead this weekend in light of ongoing construction. Motorists should give themselves extra time to get to their destination or adjust their departure time, as normal holiday travel is expected to add to the number of vehicles on the road. On I-94, one lane is closed and two are open in each direction south of Route 50 to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line; On I-894/I-43 between the Mitchell Interchange and South 27th Street in Milwaukee County, the westbound lane is closed. Ramp closures include I-894/I-43 at South 27th Street; I-94 at College Avenue; I-94 at Kenosha County E; I-94 at Route 158; and I-94 southbound at Route 165. Visit www.plan94.org.

Dresses for military brides:

Military brides are invited to replace their fatigues with a free designer wedding gown from Volle's Bridal Boutique, 53 S. Old Rand Road, Lake Zurich. On July 9, 15 gowns will be given away to military personnel or their fiances. They can choose from 50 gowns. This event is first come, first served. To qualify, brides must be engaged, on active duty in the military or have a fiancé on active duty in Iraq or Afghanistan. All military brides must show ID, copy of deployment papers, orders or other proof. Brides do not have to reside in the area where the giveaway is taking place. Woman killed by train:

A Park City woman was killed about 1:15 a.m. Friday when she was struck by a freight train in that town, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said. Kelly Brock, 43, committed suicide, Keller said. She was killed not far from her home where the tracks cross Everett Place.

New principal at Fairhaven:

Tanya Fergus has begun her duties as the new principal of Fairhaven School in Diamond Lake Elementary District 76. Fergus spent the last five years as an assistant principal in Woodland Elementary District 50. Before that, she taught second and fourth grades and middle school science. She has a masters degrees in elementary education and educational leadership. She replaced Michele Allen, who resigned effective May 22.

Funding available:

Applications for funding from Libertyville Township will be available July 13 for not-for-profit social service agencies that serve the township. Applications can be obtained at the office, 359 Merrill Court, Libertyville, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays or mailed on request. They must be completed and returned by Aug. 25.
