Fire guts Fox River Grove home; no injuries

Fire swept through a Fox River Grove home this afternoon, gutting the two-story structure before firefighters from five departments put it out.

No one was injured in the fire, which left the residence in the 600 block of Thackerry Lane badly scorched with portions of its roof completely burned out. Two people inside the home when the fire began escaped safely.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Fox River Grove Fire Lt. Michael Hagedorn said.

Firefighters were called to the scene about 2:42 p.m. by a neighbor who spotted smoke and flames coming from the home, officials said.

Besides Fox River Grove, fire crews from the Cary, Algonquin-Lake in the Hills, Crystal Lake and Barrington Countryside fire departments responded to the scene.

Firefighters had most of the flames extinguished by 4 p.m., but many remained on the scene 45 minutes later.
