BMX champ riding into Palatine

BMX World Champion Matt Wilhelm will bunny hop, tailwhip and barspin his way to a Palatine Park District event on Wednesday, Aug. 5.

Wilhelm will incorporate those bike stunts and others into an education session about bicycle safety, dealing with bullies, goal-setting and becoming a champion. According to his Web site, he also puts on a tobacco education program and discusses his personal experience about how he turned down drugs from one of his idols.

Wilhelm has won two national titles, three X-Game medals and won a silver medal at the World Championships. Many of his wins came during his time at Millikin University, where he attended on a music scholarship.

The event takes place at 10:30 a.m. at Palatine's Community Center, 250 E. Wood St.

Tickets cost $5 each, or $4 each for groups of 20 or more. For more details, go to palatineparks.org/boxoffice.html or call (847) 202-5222.
