Eight tennis courts in Elgin slated for makeovers
To all tennis players in and around Elgin.
The city is due to start resurfacing a total of eight tennis courts this week.
The makeovers are in store for the six courts at Judson University and two other courts at St. Francis Park.
As part of the city's agreement to do the work at Judson, the six courts will be open for public play, said Parks Development Coordinator Paul Bednar.
"The city talked to Judson about using those for the public, because we need additional tennis courts, as you know," Bednar said.
The city is paying roughly $22,000 to complete both projects and the courts should be open for play in two weeks, Bednar said.
That this news comes during the Wimbledon fortnight is that much sweeter.
Last summer, the city resurfaced a pair of courts at Channing Park.
Today, the courts are absolutely stunning and you'll often find me there banging the ball around with my hitting partner.
It sure will be nice to give these other courts a test drive.
