Wheaton man charged with fatally stabbing neighbor
A 45-year-old Wheaton man has been charged with fatally stabbing a neighbor in a parking lot near his home.
Michael R. Delaney of 720 Crescent St., was ordered held Sunday on a $3 million bond on first-degree murder charges
Police found a bloodied Michael A. Scalzo, 40, of 804 Crescent St. in Wheaton, at 8:28 p.m. Friday in the rear of his garage with multiple stab wounds to his upper torso, police said.
Scalzo was transported to Central DuPage Hospital in nearby Winfield, where he was pronounced dead shortly before 12:30 a.m. Saturday while in surgery.
A forensics autopsy indicated that Scalzo was stabbed six times during the attack, police said.
Delaney was apprehended near his home after unsuccessfully trying to run from police responding on the scene, police said. A weapon police believe may have been used to stab Scalzo was also recovered near Delaney's home.
Nine people allegedly witnessed the attack and were interviewed at the scene, which police said occurred during a party on Friday evening.
Police said investigators were still trying to determine what led to the dispute.
