Violence has roots in disrespect of law

In observing the recent spree of violence in the Hanover Park area and commentaries on how forums and increased bilingual law enforcement can curb its growth is truly mind-boggling. A good foundation for society rests within individual responsibility and a true commitment to family unity.

There is a fundamental responsibility of the individual to uphold respect and honor the rights of family members, neighbors, and property. The fundamental responsibility of the community and businesses to is to uphold the ideals of genuine community involvement, citizenship, and assimilation.

We have social and religious organizations in this community that feel they can and should be able to provide unlimited services to everyone and anyone who resides here regardless of legal right, origin, race, or creed. Forget the forums, forget the increase in bilingual law enforcement, and forget the dark curtain of immigration status.

Stop looking the other way when you see and know something is wrong and unlawful. This practice of looking the other way, accepting poor behavior as just another condition to apply a social bandage, pervades our neighborhoods and society.

In the words of Neale Donald Walsh, "This is the way it is because it's the way you want it to be".

This violence becomes what we are when disrespect for law and order is accepted by the individual, by leaders, and business community at large. It happens here everyday.
