Palatine dog carnival reset:

The Canine Carnival in Palatine that was canceled Thursday evening because of the threat of bad weather has been rescheduled for Sept. 10 at Fred P. Hall Amphitheater. Hosted by the Palatine Park District, the canine carnival features games, raffles, dog body painting and a fun house. For details, call (847) 991-0333.

Elk Grove teen movie night:

Elk Grove's Summer Blast 2009 teen movie night will be held today at the field behind the Pavilion at 1000 Wellington Ave. Tonight's featured movie, "Transformers," will show on a big screen. Lemonade and popcorn will be served. The free event for Elk Grove Village residents is from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Summer Blast is sponsored by the Elk Grove Park District, the Elk Grove Police Department, the Elk Grove Village Youth Committee and the Lioness Club of Elk Grove. World record car wash?

More than 200 CARSTAR collision centers throughout the United States and Canada, including several in the Chicago suburbs, will attempt to set a world record through the "Soaps It Up Carwash" on Saturday, June 20. The one-day event will serve as a fundraiser for the Make-a-Wish Foundation and various local community groups such as Elgin's Church on the Rock and Des Plaines Cub Scout Pack 25. CARSTAR aims to wash more than 4,000 vehicles at all participating locations. Local charity volunteers and CARSTAR staff will be on hand to wash vehicles as will a Guinness Book of World Records official to validate the feat. Tickets are being sold at various CARSTAR locations for $10 with 100 percent of the proceeds benefiting select charities.

Iraq the topic at TOPPER:

Phil O'Connor will speak to TOPPER (Township of Palatine Principled Energized Republicans) at their breakfast meeting at 8:15 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Vittorio's Restaurant, Smith Street and Northwest Highway in Palatine. O'Connor, an energy expert and former chair of the Illinois Commerce Commission, will talk about his recently completed year's work with the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad to improve electrical production and distribution in Iraq. Street lamp work in Hoffman:

Hoffman Estates will host a ceremony next week celebrating lighting improvements at Barrington Square. The ceremony takes place at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Kensington Lane and Abbeywood Drive inside the Barrington Square subdivision. Phase I of the project included 56 new streetlights on the rights of way on Governors Lane, Kensington Lane and Abbeywood Drive. Sidewalk contract:

A contract for $299,217 to remove and replace sections of sidewalks that present trip hazards in Arlington Heights has been awarded to Schroeder & Schroeder Inc. of Skokie. Most of the work will be in the south part of the village. The Arlington Heights Park District is expected to add $229,062 to the contract.
