If Josie Girl gets a job first ...
Enjoyed Burt Constable's front-page June 1 article on responses for potential jobs sent to Josie Girl after owners posted the dogs resume online.
Hopefully, this humorous story helps readers looking for a job understand that registering with job sites and replying to job postings means little when it comes down to actually landing that gig.
I have learned this during the past 12 months while searching for a new sales position. I am registered on five career sites, which I check daily, plus I keep my Linkedin profile very current. Despite all that and the fact that I have responded to literally thousands of job postings, I have had only 24 responses. It should be noted also that out of those 24 responses, only eight were for actual full time compensated positions with some benefits.
Before this experience my job searches consisted of submitting a beautiful typed cover letter and resume via snail mail to win a call back and invite for the interview. That was a pretty simple task compared to the job search now when one must be able to crack the secret combination of key words: layout, font and format ... and if you are able to accomplish that, maybe a real human (not the decision maker but a human nonetheless) might look at your actual qualifications.
Life is a learning experience and I am learning along with everyone else. One final thing; if Josie Girl gets a real job before I do, I will hire the dog's owners to rewrite my resume.
