Work starts on train station:
Construction will begin immediately on a $1.27 million restoration of the Metra train station in downtown Wood Dale after officials broke ground for the project Tuesday. The new station is expected to provide improved services and amenities - including a coffee shop - serve as a focal point for the city's downtown and help spur retail and housing development. Officials say the station, to be built in a metro-prairie style, will be completed by the start of the new year.
Guillen visits DuPage:
White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen will be in Downers Grove at 6:30 p.m. June 25 with sports writer Mark Gonzalez to signs copies of Gonzalez's book, "The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, Chicago White Sox: Heart-pounding, Jaw-dropping and Gut-wrenching Moments from Chicago White Sox History." The pair will appear at the Downers Grove Recreation and Fitness Center, 4500 Belmont Road. The appearance is being sponsored by Anderson's Bookshop. Volunteers tackle projects:
More than 500 volunteers will tackle painting and landscaping projects at nine sites Saturday as part of Fox Valley United Way's annual Day of Caring. The volunteers will rally between 8 and 8:30 a.m. at Ginger Creek Community Church, 2850 Ginger Woods Drive, Aurora. The Day of Caring is a collaboration among Fox Valley United Way, Ginger Creek Church and Aurora. The volunteers will do community service projects at Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry, Elderday Center, Hesed House, Jennings Terrace, Kendall County Food Pantry, Marie Wilkinson Day Care Center, the Visiting Nurse Association, YWCA Aurora and Eastwood Housing Facility. More than 130 kids at Eastwood will receive a new pair of shoes as part of Love Fox Valley's "Walk a Mile" celebration for the Day of Caring. For details, call (630) 896-4636.
