Man denies attack on wife, son

A Fox Lake man charged with stabbing his son and choking his wife during a brawl inside their apartment pleaded not guilty Thursday in Lake County circuit court.

Vincent Wilson, 47, is charged with aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery in the May 10 incident.

Assistant State's Attorney Fred Day said Wilson's 15-year-old son heard a disturbance in the apartment around 7 p.m. and discovered Wilson and the victim's stepmother fighting in a bedroom.

The son jumped on Wilson when Wilson put his hands around the woman's throat, Day said, and the fight spilled over into the kitchen area.

There, police said Wilson grabbed a pair of kitchen shears and slashed at his son, cutting him in the rib area.

Both victims were treated and released from a hospital and Wilson was arrested about 90 minutes after the attacks.

Day said Wilson was also originally charged with armed violence, but that charge was dropped before a grand jury review of the case.

Associate Judge Theodore Potkonjak told Wilson he faces up to five years in prison if convicted and scheduled a trial for July 2.

Wilson is being held in the Lake County jail on $250,000 bond.
