Hanover Park man gets 12 years for shooting
Hanover Park resident Gary Paladino faced up to 30 years in prison for a shooting that occurred last year in Streamwood.
The 19-year-old's guilty plea to attempted first-degree murder earned him 12 years at his sentencing Thursday in a Rolling Meadows courtroom.
The victim suffered a grazing wound to the chest in the shooting, which took place last July along Krause Avenue in Streamwood. The victim was sitting outside his house drinking a soda when he noticed the defendant and another man driving a red Chevy Blazer down his street, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Shari Chandra. The men passed the victim's house several times shouting gang slogans and making gang gestures, Chandra said.
The third time the truck passed, the victim threw a brick at it, striking a door, Chandra said. The victim claims Paladino responded by firing four rounds from a .32-caliber weapon at him, Chandra said. Neighbors reported the car's license plate number to police who apprehended the defendant in Hanover Park a short time later.
Paladino, who lives in the 1700 block of Forest Glen in Hanover Park, admitted to being present during the incident but denied firing the weapon, Chandra said.
Court records show that Paladino was on probation for a 2007 misdemeanor battery conviction at the time of the shooting.
