Fox Valley Park District to open E-Fit room
The Fox Valley Park District will debut its E-Fit Interactive Fitness Room at the Eola Community Center with a grand opening ceremony from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, June 12.
Visitors can get a sneak peek at the park district's new interactive gaming arcade that combines the elements of a health club with playground features enhanced by technology.
"It's like a video game come to life," said Jaime Ijams, E-Fit coordinator. "We're always looking for creative ways to combat childhood obesity, and an interactive fitness room like this provides great workout opportunities - not only for kids, but for people of all ages. It's a fun way to promote healthy lifestyles."
Among the many features are a 52-inch LCD television with Guitar Hero Aerosmith and World Tour Complete Band, Nintendo Wii, XerDance dance pads, Sportwall Training System, electronic playground and an indoor climbing wall.
The facility is the first of its kind in the area and designed to promote fitness through workouts that increase speed, agility, coordination and cardiovascular health while also providing mental stimulus.
E-Fit can accommodate large sports teams, youth groups, camps and birthday parties. It also will feature open times each day for individual visits. Hourly admission is $4 per resident and $5 per nonresident.
The open house on Friday will include free food and giveaways, with an opening ceremony at 4 p.m. The Eola Community Center is at 555 S. Eola Road in Aurora. For information, call (630) 851-8990.
