Quarry Beach to host park district 40th anniversary celebrations

Batavia Park District is celebrating 40 years of service in 2009. Throughout the summer, there will be daylong celebrations at Hall Quarry Beach to commemorate this milestone. Each event will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Quarry, 400 S. Water St. Regular admission prices apply. Daily admission is $7 for residents and $10 for nonresidents.

In honor of the park district's anniversary, the first celebration will be held on Thursday, June 11. Bring the family out for sand sculpture demonstrations with local artist Joe Gagnepain of Art by Joseph who recently created the downtown mural behind Prairie Path Cycles. The day will also include sand building contests, special giveaways and a splashing bash party with free cupcakes to the first 200 people.

On Thursday, July 16, go back in time to 1969, a year that brought many milestones both locally and nationally. Help celebrate the year the Batavia Park District was established and when the U.S. put the first man on the moon by taking a dip in the Quarry, jumping in the moonwalk or enjoying some free astronaut ice cream to the first 200 people.

Come out to the Quarry on Thursday, Aug. 6, to capture a moment in time with Woodstock. Experience groovy music that rocked the year 1969, and enjoy a performance by a live 1960s tribute band, games, giveaways and more. Temporary tattoos will be given out while supplies last.
