Parks chat

The Vernon Hills Park District will host its first "Park Chat" from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 9 at Central Park near Ranney Drive and Central Park Place in the Centennial Crossing subdivision. Parks staff will be present to chat with residents at various locations on selected evenings throughout the summer. Complimentary custard cups from Culvers will be available. There is no agenda for the events but is intended to boost enhance communication with the public.

Summer concert series

The Lake County Forest Preserve District begins a seventh season of free outdoor concerts at Independence Grove Forest Preserve near Libertyville at 7:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 10, with the Navy Band Great Lakes Wind Ensemble. The free events at the Millennia Plaza amphitheater, are open to all ages. The remaining eight concerts are on Tuesdays, June 16 and 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28; and Aug. 4 and 11. There will be no concert June 23. Concertgoers should bring a blanket or lawn chair. Independence Grove is on Route 137 east of Route 21. Visit www.lcfpd.org.

Rummage sale set in Lake Villa

Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Lake Villa will hold its annual rummage sale on Thursday and Friday, June 11 and 12, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, June 13. The church is at 135 S. Milwaukee Ave., on the corner of routes 83 and 132. Cars, boats, appliances, tools, furniture, computers, and sporting goods and more for sale. Volunteer in the great outdoors

Spend time outdoors, make new friends and contribute to the environment at restoration work day, every weekend hosted by the Lake County Forest Preserve district. The work days are held at various locations throughout Lake County. No experience necessary. All ages invited. Volunteers should dress in long pants and sturdy shoes, and bring work gloves. Ceremony to move in 2010

Starting next year, Stevenson High School students will graduate at the Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates, officials announced. Commencement exercises for the Lincolnshire school had been held at Northwestern University's Welsh-Ryan Arena for many years. Better seating, parking, handicap accessibility and amenities were among the reasons cited for the move.

Customer appreciation event

People's Choice Family Fun Center, 2411 Grand Ave. in Gurnee ,plans to host a customer appreciation event on June 27. As part of the day, the facility will offer free hot dogs, soda, popcorn, pony rides, door prizes and game tokens. Covering about 43,000 square feet, the center has an arcade, pizza parlor, miniature golf course and other offerings.
