Hoffman fish derby back this Saturday
The Hoffman Estates Chamber of Commerce is inviting all residents to cast their rods into South Ridge Lake on Saturday and come up with prizes donated by local merchants.
The annual community fishing derby is 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, June 6 at South Ridge Lake, 1450 Freeman Road. More than 65 tagged catfish worth $25-$100 sponsored by local businesses will be in the lake, plus one fish worth a $1,000 gift card at Cabela's.
There will be door prizes every 10 minutes, goody bags for the first 500 attendees and free T-shirts to the first 100 kids to register. Vendors will sell food on site. There will be prizes for the longest fish caught by an adult, and by children ages 7-16 and 2-6.
There are no age or residency restrictions and no fishing license is necessary for this one event. All anglers must be registered; Register ahead of time for $3 a person or at 8 a.m. Saturday for $5. The derby's benefactor is Sears Holdings Corp. and its major sponsors are Hoffman Estates Community Bank and Cabela's. Worms will be for sale by Boy Scout Troop #290, which helps fund their camping trips for the year.
St. Marcelline spring concert is Sunday
The seventh annual St. Marcelline Spring Concert will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 7, in the church, 822 S. Springinsguth Road in Schaumburg.
The 39-member Sanctuary Choir will be performing both sacred and popular songs, such as those from Broadway, among others. Also on the bill that night will be the Jubilation Ringers handbell choir and the Joyful Noise Children's Choir. The free two hour performance is family-friendly. A reception will follow afterward in the church's Family Life Center.

Fremd to host next weekend's Relay
Cancer survivors are invited to participate in the American Cancer Society's 2009 Relay For Life of Palatine, Rolling Meadows and Inverness, which will be held at Fremd High School June12-13.
The Relay For Life is an overnight walk-run to raise money for cancer education, advocacy, awareness, support and research to help find a cure. The Survivor celebration takes place immediately following the opening ceremonies, starting at 6 p.m.
All survivors are asked to walk the first lap with their caregivers. and then are invited to a reception in their honor on site.
