Streamwood 2B Brauer commits to Judson University
The Judson University baseball program landed a hitter Monday.
Coach Rich Benjamin's Eagles received a verbal commitment from Streamwood second baseman Brian Brauer, who last week completed a tremendous high school season.
Brauer, 18, led the Sabres to a 19-14 finish with his big bat. The senior hit .525 (64-for-122) with 12 doubles, 3 triples, 15 home runs and 61 RBI. He finished with a remarkable slugging percentage of 1.041, scored 44 runs and stole 17 bases in 17 attempts.
Brauer's 15th home run of the season broke the area record held since 1999 by Jason Richardson of Larkin.
Judson, an NAIA Division II school in Elgin, loses eight seniors from the 2009 baseball team that won 30 games for the first time in program history. Brauer liked the fit.
"It was local and they have good talent coming in because they had a good year this year," he said. "Hopefully, they have an even better year next year. I'm looking forward to it."
The choice came down to Judson or Quincy College.
"I was going back and forth on this," Brauer said. "It feels good to have it set. It's been stressful. I'm looking forward to it now."
