Bikes allowed at skate park
Naperville Park District will allow bicycles at its Frontier Sports Complex Skate Facility at 3380 Cedar Glade Drive on a trial basis beginning Tuesday. The skate facility will be open for bike use only from 4 p.m. to sunset Tuesdays and Thursdays. Inline skaters and skateboarders will continue to have use of the facility during all other times and days the facility is open. Park officials said they'll pull the plug on bike use if it causes a strain on the facility. The district's Centennial Park skate facility along the downtown Riverwalk will continue to be open only to in-line skaters and skateboarders. For details, visit napervilleparks.org.
Dist. 48 seeks more input
Salt Creek Elementary District 48 leaders will form citizen committees this summer to help set priorities for its programs. The district recently held the third in a series of public forums to detail its mission and offer residents the chance to provide feedback. District officials are projecting a balanced budget for the next two years but say they will have to raise revenues or trim services to avoid a budget deficit in the third year. The district covers portions of Elmhurst, Villa Park, Oak Brook and Oakbrook Terrace.
Coupons reward bike safety
During Bike Safety Month in June, Naperville police will distribute free Dunkin' Donuts coupons to kids "caught demonstrating good bike safety." That could mean wearing a bike helmet, obeying traffic signals or riding on the other side of the road. The coupons say "You've been CAUGHT Demonstrating Good Bike Safety" and may be redeemed at any of the seven Dunkin' Donuts in Naperville.
