Torah Academy open house:
Torah Academy, a Jewish day school that is opening this fall in Buffalo Grove, will hold an ice cream social open house for interested parents and their children from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31, in the Educational Wing of Congregation Beth Am, 225 McHenry Road just north of Lake-Cook Road. The event will include a science demonstration, arts and crafts projects, live music and singing. The school initially will serve preschool, kindergartners and first-graders, but plans to expand through 8th grade over time. The Patrick Sean Botterman Memorial Fundraiser, honoring the Wheeling Township Democratic committeeman who died unexpectedly last year, will be a 10:30 a.m. breakfast, Sunday, May 31, at Chevy Chase Golf Club, 1000 N. Fun, fitness and art combined:
Mount Prospect's Fun and Fitness Art Walk will be from noon-3 p.m. Sunday, May 31, beginning at Prospect Avenue and Wille Street in downtown Mount Prospect. The two-mile fun walk/run around the downtown area culminates with an art and business expo at the finish line. New roofs coming to schools:
Thomas Middle School and Miner School in Arlington Heights will get new roofs this summer. The board of Arlington Heights District 25 recently awarded the contract to Blake Lord Associates Inc. in Palatine for $258,000.
