Winfield man wins honors
Winfield's Paul Smith recently was honored as United Way of Metropolitan Chicago's Volunteer of the Year at the United Way Community Celebration. The event celebrates the impact of all the individuals and companies working with United Way to improve lives. Smith is director of the DuPage County Department of Community Services and has been involved with United Way for four years. He currently serves as secretary of the United Way of the DuPage Area Board and as chairman of the Community Impact Steering Committee. The Outstanding Volunteer Award recognizes United Way volunteers whose work has resulted in groundbreaking achievements that advance United Way's mission to improve lives.
NCC makes promotions
Two area teachers have been granted promotions effective with the start of next school year from the board of trustees at Naperville's North Central College. They are Jeffrey Jankowski of Naperville, who was granted tenure and promoted to associate professor of chemistry, and Kristine Servais of Aurora, who was promoted to associate professor of education. Others who also received tenure or promotions were Mara Berkland of Chicago, Stephen Maynard Caliendo of Chicago, Zachary Jack of Maple Park and Jennifer Keys of Chicago.
Center announces new hours
Aurora University's Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures has announced its summer hours. The center will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The museum is closed Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays and also during August. Fall semester hours resume Sept. 8. The center is at Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.
