Dulla's the key as Fillies power past Stagg
Because she was attending an 11 a.m. wedding in Naperville, senior Lindsey Dulla showed up at her Barrington softball game in Minooka just minutes before the first pitch Saturday afternoon.
She also showed up with a big hit in the top of the eighth.
The senior center fielder delivered what proved to be the winning run when she singled to left and drove in Kelsey Kazmier to make it 6-4 in the top of the eighth.
Stagg (21-12) would score 1 run in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Fillies completed a nifty comeback from a 4-0 deficit to edge the Chargers 6-5 in the Stone City Jamboree contest in the south suburbs.
It gave the Fillies a 30-3 final regular season record and their ninth straight season of 30 or more wins under coach Perry Peterson.
The Fillies tied it at 4-4 in the top seventh on Nora Logue's sacrifice fly which brought home Kiersten Tinkoff (2-for-4, 2 doubles, 2 RBI).
Playing international tiebreaker rules, the Fillies scored twice in the top of the eighth. Sophomore Kristin Kuhn and freshman Kelsey Kazmeir both scored.
Dulla's single to left field brought home Kazmeir in what turned out to be the game-winning run.
Logue (2-for-5) also had a home run for the Fillies in the fifth inning. Teammate Colleen Shandley went 3-for-4 with a walk.
Senior Kim Cygan (26-3) earned the win and moved into fourth on Barrington's all-time list for career wins, surpassing former southpaw standout Randi Freese who had 56 wins.
Cygan is now 57-11.
Elk Grove splits: The Grenadiers (30-3) started the day with a 2-0 victory over visiting Resurrection and then dropped a 4-0 decision to powerful Sandburg in the Stone City Jamboree in Minooka.
Junior Stephanie Maday led off the fourth inning against Resurrection with a solo home run which proved to be the only run she would need to get her 16th win in 18 decisions. It was Maday's second homer in as many days.
Maday also struck out five, walked none and gave up 2 hits in four innings while freshman Dani Goranson threw the final three innings with 3 strikeouts and 1 hit.
The Mid-Suburban League champs added an insurance run in the fifth when Dani Goranson singled home courtesy runner Missy Regan with one out and the bases loaded.
Regan was running for Dani's sister, Nikki, who began the rally with a one-out single followed by a base hit by Caitlin Garrison and walk to Maday.
A few hours later. Sandburg pitcher Brittany Gardner limited the Grenadiers to 3 hits, including a double by Olivia Roback.
Maday (1 unearned run) went the first three innings and Dani Goranson (2 unearned runs and one earned) the final three.
"They (Sandburg are a good team, no doubt about it," said Elk Grove coach Ken Grams about the Eagles. "I've heard a lot about their pitcher the last few years and she (Loyola signee) is legitimate. She is a nice left-hander and has a nice rise ball. This was a good test for us to get ready for next week (regionals)."
Schaumburg sweeps: The Saxons finished their regular season 20-14 with 7-0 and 9-3 wins over host Maine West.
Senior Missy Anderson (15-10) and freshman Alyssa Lancaster combined to shut out the Warriors in the opener with a 2-hitter.
Anderson struck out eight in five innings to reach 201 strikeouts for the season.
Freshman Alyssa Lancaster went the final two innings.
Alexis Carravetta (2-for-4), Nicole Chase (3-for-4) and Sarah McGinn (2-for-4) were top hitters for the Saxons.

Lancaster threw the final three innings.

Sophomore Maria Dax (8-6) earned the win for the Bison with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks.
Maine South 3, Palatine 1: Sophomore Joanne Jablonski had the Pirates' RBI and a stolen base in Park Ridge. Junior Chrissy Roto struck out seven and walked only one for the Pirates (15-15).
