Can you spare a dime for Elburn's Day in the Park?
Elburn's Day in the Park community picnic will happen July 5, as it has for 12 years.
But the fun has a price tag, and party planners are asking guests to chip in to make sure it can be as great as it has been in the past.
"We really don't want to let the people down," said Joe Fleming, chairman of the event. "Really, if we could come up with another $3,000 (for fireworks) we'd be in good shape."
Sponsors would also be welcome for midday activities such as the bands, bag-toss game and volleyball tournament. The party is held at Lions Park.
Businesses throughout Elburn are putting out canisters marked for Day in the Park donations. People can also send donations to the Elburn Chamber of Commerce, 525 N. Main St., Suite 21, Elburn, 60119.
"The community does not realize that the chamber puts this on," not the village or Kane County, Fleming said.
Groups and businesses interested in being sponsors can check elburn.com or call (630) 365-2295 to obtain an application. Sponsorships cost from $150 to $1,000, and include perks such as having their signs up at the event, and their logos on items and publicity materials.
And what the sponsors are paying for, the best part of the Day in the Park?
"I think for me it is seeing all the people come together as a community," Fleming said.
