Ex-Elburn administrator back in familiar territory

Elburn community development director David Morrison had "assistant village administrator" added to his title this week.

Village President Dave Anderson, who recommended the move, said it just reflects what already was the case: that whoever held the community development job in the past also acted as an assistant administrator.

But he wanted to make it official so Morrison could serve on the new committees Anderson and the village board set up, which require that the staff liaison be an "administrator."

Plus, Morrison will be filling in for new village administrator Erin Willret during her upcoming maternity leave.

Morrison should certainly know what it takes to run the village; he was the administrator for 10 years until Anderson and the village board removed him from the job May 4. That night, they made Willret (who was the village's community development director) the administrator.

Online anonymous commenters have criticized Anderson for that, suggesting that he was too quick to shake up the administrative team after taking office and that he should have studied the idea further.

"My answer is, 'No, I did not move too fast,' " Anderson said. He said that at the time, he wasn't aware of the "committee issues" requiring having an administrative person.

The board approved the measure 6-0 Monday night.
