Lake Co. cops narrow search in fatal hit-and-run
Lake County sheriff's investigators are searching for a Chevy Cavalier or Pontiac Sunfire that was involved in the hit and run death of a Libertyville-area man.
A driver's side mirror was found at the scene of the accident at Route 137 near River Road that killed 26-year-old Peter Padour at 4:17 a.m. Sunday.
Investigators believe that mirror belongs to a 2003 Chevy Cavalier or a Pontiac Sunfire. Those models were produced between 1995 and 2003, said Sgt. Christopher Thompson, the sheriff's office spokesman.
Police also believe the driver's-side hood and windshield of the vehicle were damaged in the accident. Police are distributing fliers to all body shops and local glass suppliers hoping to find the vehicle.
Results from toxicology tests show Padour had a blood-alcohol level of .23, nearly three times the legal limit of .08, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said this week.
Padour's body was found near his home on the 15600 block of Buckley Road in unincorporated Lake County by a passing motorist. Police said there were no witnesses to the fatal accident.
Investigators also found a fast-food bag near the body, and determined Padour had stopped at McDonald's in Libertyville a short time before being hit. Police viewed images from the restaurant's surveillance camera to make that connection.
