Maine West will rock out on May 21
Rock guitar fans take note: Maine West High School will present its third annual Guitar Rock Concert at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 21 in the Maine West Auditorium, Wolf Road and Oakton Street in Des Plaines.
The concert is free. It features all 100 students in the Maine West Guitar program, directed by Frank Massi, and includes a large range of different rock genres, including Metallica, Black Sabbath, My Chemical Romance, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Coldplay and others.
The Maine West Fine Arts Boosters will also raffle off a guitar at the concert.
MPPD wins 'Field of Dreams' award
The Chicago 16-inch Softball Hall of Fame has awarded the Mount Prospect Park District its first Field of Dreams award to honor the park district's contribution to Chicago softball for more than 20 years.
Majewski Athletic Complex has hosted numerous softball leagues - including the Classic League, now celebrating its 28th year - and dozens of national tournaments.
Rainbow Falls opens for season May 23
Rainbow Falls Waterpark in Elk Grove Village opens Saturday, May 23, and will be open over the holiday weekend from 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. all three days. The pool will be open again May 30 and 31 and June 6 and 7 for the same hours.
The regular season begins June 13, when the pool stays open every day until Aug. 23. Regular hours are 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Friday; 11:30 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturdays; and 11:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays. General admission is $8 for residents with I.D.; $14 for nonresidents.

Party 4 A Cure will rock Knights Hall
The Knights of Columbus will host the "Party 4 A Cure" barbecue with live rock and blues bands on Saturday, May 22, to benefit the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The food is served and bar open at 6:30 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 15 N. Hickory, Arlington Heights. Bands begin at 8:30 p.m. Proceeds of raffles and other events will benefit the Relay for Life. There is no cover charge or admission. The event ends at 12:30 a.m. (847) 255-4483.
