1964: Graduates from Baker University in Baldwin, Kan., with bachelor's degree in physics/mathematics
1965: Earns master's degree in secondary education from Kansas State University
1965: Becomes teacher at Pacific Grove Public Schools in Pacific Grove, Calif.
1969: Begins teaching research at Oregon State System of Higher Education in Monmouth, Ore.
1972: Becomes principal of Kendall Demonstration School for the Deaf in Washington, D.C.
1972: Earns doctorate in educational administration from University of Wisconsin
1973: Becomes director of research, evaluation and planning of St. Louis Public Schools
1977: Begins work in Anchorage School District in Alaska as assistant to the deputy superintendent
1981: Takes over as deputy superintendent of the Anchorage district
1986: Begins as superintendent of Cedar Rapids Community Schools in Iowa, overseeing 17,500 students
1993: Assumes leadership of Jefferson County Public Schools in Louisville, Ky.
2004: Becomes adjunct professor in college of education and human development at University of Louisville
2006: Earns Superintendent of the Year honors from the Kentucky Association of School Administrators
January 2007: Becomes finalist for Indian Prairie Unit District 204 superintendent
Feb. 15, 2007: Officially named District 204 superintendent
May 20, 2009: Hired as superintendent of Greater Clark County School system in southern Indiana
