Disciplined Red Wings stymie Hawks' big edge
When the Blackhawks blasted past Calgary and Vancouver, they grew accustomed to drawing at least four power-play opportunities per game.
And considering the Hawks converted 15 of their 51 power-play chances in their first two playoff series, it's fair to say they came to rely on those man advantages.
Then came Game 1 of the Western Conference finals - when disciplined Detroit gave the Hawks just one power play. Kris Versteeg took advantage to tie the game at 2-2 early in the third, but things went haywire from there.
Since the Hawks have been so strong on the power play in the postseason (31 percent), can they hope the Red Wings give them a few more chances in tonight's Game 2 and beyond? Detroit's first two playoff series suggest so.
During their sweep of Columbus and their seven-game scrap with Anaheim, the Red Wings provided 40 power plays for the opposition. The Jackets and Ducks converted 11 of them (27.5 percent).
