Longtime Palatine park board commissioner retires
At the Palatine Park District Park Board meeting Tuesday, May 12, Robert "Dutch" Schultz, in his 25th year serving as a park board commissioner, retired from this phase of public service with the Palatine Park District.
Schultz, who chose not to seek re-election, has served as president, vice-president and treasurer several times over during his tenure on the board. Also known as park district's "green" commissioner, Schultz established
and headed the park district's environmental committee, on which he will continue to serve.
A longtime Palatine resident, Schultz saw substantial growth in area and population of the park district, and was instrumental in addressing this growth with the development of many of its parks and facilities including renovation of two major pools, preschools, Hamilton Sports Fields, gymnastics facility, stables, construction of a new fitness center, several phases of improvements at Palatine Hills Golf Course as well as the design and ongoing construction of the district's newest facility,
Falcon Park Recreation Center.
Promoting cooperation with other governmental agencies, he was effective in the planning/construction of the Combined Services Facility - a joint effort with the village of
Palatine; extension/connection of the Palatine Bike Trail with the city of Rolling Meadows; "The Grove" with District 15, creation of the Palatine Township Senior Center, and the Palatine Opportunity Center.
Honoring his many years of service to the community, the board of park commissioners of the Palatine Park District has designated the recreational area adjacent to Palatine Hills Golf Course as the Robert "Dutch" Schultz Recreation Area.
