Lake Co. authorities have few clues in fatal hit-and-run

Investigators from the Lake County Sheriff's office have a new clue in the hit and run death of a Libertyville man, but the puzzle remains unsolved.

Results from toxicology tests revealed the victim, Peter Padour, had a blood-alcohol level of .23, which is nearly three times the legal limit of .08 to be considered impaired, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said Monday.

Padour, 26, was found on the side of Buckley Road, also known as Route 137, by a passing motorist at about 4 a.m. Sunday, Sgt. Jeff Burke said. Keller said Padour died from multiple traumas after being hit by the vehicle.

There were no witnesses to the fatal accident, but a piece of the car that struck Padour was found at the scene.

"We are still trying to determine the make and model of the vehicle," Deputy Chief Kevin Parker said. "We are taking the part to be examined at auto parts stores and also car dealers."

Sheriff's deputies returned to the scene early Monday morning and stopped motorists at random to ask if they had any knowledge of the accident. But they didn't have any luck, Parker said.

Police believe Padour was hit a by a small car traveling in the westbound lanes near his home on the 15600 block of Buckley Road in unincorporated Lake County, near River Road.

Investigators found a fast food bag near the body and determined Padour had stopped at McDonald's in Libertyville a short time before being hit. Police viewed images from the restaurant's surveillance camera to make that connection.

Parker said he hopes the driver will come forward and confess, but said police will remain diligent in the investigation.

"We're doing everything we can," he said. "We are looking at everything."
