Robotics champs deserve accolades
I congratulate the students from the WildStang Robotics Team for winning the FIRST Robotics Championship held recently in Atlanta, GA. With a total of 350 high school teams competing and over 10,000 high school students in attendance, the WildStang Team, consisting of students from Rolling Meadows, Wheeling and Prospect High Schools, took the top prize.
Bringing the FIRST Robotics Championship home to Chicagoland is on par with having one of the city's athletic teams winning a national championship. The WildStang Team, individually, ended the competition with an undefeated record and has rightfully distinguished itself among the top teams in the country.
FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology, is an international competition designed to inspire and excite students to major in engineering, science, and technical careers. Over two thousand teams with over 30,000 students competed at 45 regional events worldwide during the 2009 competition season.
Of course, the team's success is due to many factors including the talent and dedication of all of the students on the team, as well as the leadership and commitment of faculty team leader, Mark Koch from Rolling Meadows High School and the generous support (funding and mentorship) of Motorola, led by Dan Green.
I salute all of the WildStang supporters that have given so much to help the WildStang Team become the 2009 FIRST Robotics Champions.
