Athletic conference change

The Kaneland District 302 school board will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 18 to discuss a proposal to change the athletic conference in which its team plays. The meeting is at Kaneland High School, 47W326 Keslinger Road, Maple Park. The board wants to hear the opinions of residents and students.

Class of 2003 records to be destroyed

The temporary files for all students in the Geneva High School Class of 2003 will be destroyed starting this week. Temporary records are maintained for five years following graduation, transfer or permanent withdrawal from a school district, at which point they can be destroyed. Students who wish to pick up their file must do so in person and present photo identification. Records can be picked up at the counseling and advising office. Golf for Marklund

The 27th Annual Marklund Golf Classic is Tuesday, May 19 at the Hilton Chicago-Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomingdale. It includes on-the-course competitions, open bar, raffle prizes and a live auction. Marklund provides care for people with disabilities at several facilities, including the Hyde Center in Geneva.

Older adults meet

People 55 and older are invited to wear spring colors to the Batavia Seniors Club meeting at noon Wednesday, May 20 at the Eastside Community Center, 14 N. Van Buren St. The Batavia High School Swing Singers will perform. The cost is $13. Deliver payments to the Batavia Park District, 327 W. Wilson St.

Batavia Park District eyes gold

The Batavia Park District was recently named one of 20 nationwide Gold Medal finalists by the National Recreation and Park Association for the second consecutive year. Four finalists are chosen in five population categories. Batavia will be competing against the Itasca and Vernon Hills park districts and the Golden Parks and Recreation Department in Colorado. The winner will be announced in October.

Aurora hydrant flushing

The Aurora Fire Department's annual fire hydrant testing program is under way and will continue through June 30. Testing will be done between 8 a.m. and noon Mondays through Thursdays. Residents are reminded to check their water for rust before use. If rust is detected, continue to run water until it's clear. If laundry becomes discolored by rust, do not dry the items. Contact the city's customer service center at (630) 264-4636 for information on how to obtain a free bottle of liquid poly, a stain removal treatment.
