Dist. 204 bus driver charged withsexual exploitation fired

A 72-year-old Naperville man has been fired as a bus driver for Indian Prairie School District 204 after being charged with exposing himself to a student.

Ned H. Musselman, of the 6S100 block of Cape Road, faces misdemeanor charges of sexual exploitation of a child and public indecency in connection with the May 7 incident.

He was arrested and charged Thursday, authorities said.

Naperville police Cmdr. James Montanari said the incident occurred about 4 p.m. on the 900 block of Fairway Drive, in the northern area of the school district.

Musselman is accused of exposing himself to a fifth-grade girl, who was the last person on the bus. The student was not physically harmed.

"A witness reported suspicious observations The police got involved and investigated and based on the investigation, charges were filed," Montanari said. "The incident happened on May 7. There was an investigation and the arrest warrants were served on the 14th."

A court date for Musselman has not been set. Information about his bond was not immediately available. The incident prompted Superintendent Stephen Daeschner to send home a letter to parents Friday and post a message on the district's Web site explaining what happened.

The alleged exposure incident occurred on the same day that another bus drive kicked a seventh-grader student off a route in the morning. The student was on a different bus because of a family emergency.

Daeschner said both drivers have been fired by First Student, the district's transportation provider, which conducts extensive background checks on its employees.

"I want to let you know about two serious incidents that happened with employees of First Student, the district's transportation provider. The actions on the part of both drivers are completely unacceptable," read part of Daeschner's statement. "Any incident that compromises the safety of our students is extremely serious. I want to assure you that we have had numerous conversations with First Student to discuss both of these incidents, and more importantly, to stress the district's concern for the safety of our students."
