Lawmakers need to must say 'enough'
I am a retired teacher receiving a state managed pension. I am concerned that the Illinois General Assembly and the governor's office are posturing to severely underfund the pension systems this spring, exploiting the climate of economic anxiety as political cover in an effort to balance the books upon the backs of retired educators and others. Alarmingly, this appears to be a continuation of the reckless pension policies of now-disgraced former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. What will it take for rank and file lawmakers to say, "Enough?" Lawmakers have an obligation to oppose any action that would underfund contracted pension obligations.
